New-build town centre mixed residential, retail and leisure in a heritage location
CDP are Bedford Council’s development partner for the creation of a new cultural quarter in the heart of this historic town.
The proposals result from a major architectural competition and respond to the site’s position and archaeological importance, within the remains of Bedford‘s mediaeval castle.
Three new bar/restaurant units will have terraces overlooking a new archaeological park which will expose the inner bailey of the castle for the first time. The park will add critical mass to the adjoining Museum, Art Gallery and Castle Mound.
A further series of new buildings of up to eight storeys will provide 103 one, two and three bedroom apartments above eight retail units providing an active and vibrant street frontage.
Completion of the £20m project is expected in autumn 2008.
